Program Note:

 

Life ebbs and flows from one cycle concluding as another begins. To Begin Anew meditates on the fears and freedoms that come with starting a new chapter in life; as the great unknown (and unwritten) awaits. The two instruments inch ever closer out of their comfort zones as the work begins in modest begins, cycling through a series of fifth-related intervals. Childlike joy, temporary self-doubt, and ultimately reflection and meditation on  the journey fill this prelude with many miles of travel in a brief amount of time.
